Man Utd U23s game evacuated after ‘bomb scare’ during Southampton clash

MANCHESTER UNITED'S Under-23 clash against Southampton was evacuated after a "bomb scare" on Friday night.

But Leigh's stadium was thoroughly searched by security staff and the incident was declared as a false alarm.

The security alert was identified at full-time after the Saints won the Premier League 2 fixture 1-0.

It is reported that the players were immediately ordered to board their team buses while still wearing their kits.

Police arrived to the 12,000-capacity stadium as eye witnesses claimed it was bomb scare.

United fan Peter Bolton was at the match and he posted an update on Twitter after the hoax call.

He wrote: "All players quickly evacuated from @Isvstadium at full time.

"Straight off pitch and onto team coaches (still in full kit). Heard it's bomb scare, but the fans not told anything by stewards."

Manchester United lost the match to Southampton after Jonathan Afolabi found the net in the first half.

The Saints have cemented their spot at the top of the Division 2 table, while Ricky Sbragia's United side are slumped at fifth.
