Sparks fly as M.E.N goes on the road to discuss Manchester United and Man City

Transfers, Sergio Aguero's elbow and the arrival of Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola dominated proceedings during the M.E.N's panel discussion in Manchester tonight.

To mark Manchester becoming the capital of football again, the M.E.N brought a lively debate to a packed audience at the Black Dog Ballroom at New Wakefield Street.

In the red corner, Man United's 1968 European Cup winner David Sadler joined United reporter Stuart Mathieson while former Man City captain Paul Lake and Blues writer Rob Pollard represented City.

Sky Sports correspondent James Cooper had the unenviable job of acting as the panel's referee.

One of the first topics to get tongues wagging was the news that Aguero had been charged with violent conduct following an 'elbow' on West Ham defender Winston Reid on Sunday.

Sadler drew a hearty laugh when he said the number of television cameras today means players "can't get away with anything" compared to his playing days.

On the subject of the Argentine's team-mate, goalkeeper Joe Hart, Paul Lake believed the Englishman deserved a better club than Torino.

"I think Liverpool are absolutely devastated because if they knew about Joe two months previously, they would’ve snapped him up," he said.

Commenting on what scared him ahead of the Manchester derby on September 10, City writer Rob Pollard said it came down to one man.

“Paul Pogba really because, as I said earlier, he could potentially become the best player in the Premier League.”

Although he welcomed the world-record arrival of Pogba, Mathieson believed that the appointments of Guardiola and Mourinho were key to Manchester "being the capital of football again".
